Welcome to BIBLQUIZ 2003 for Hebrews and Peter.

Please note that if you are a coach or quiz master, this enhanced release contains a feature called "QUIZGEN". This feature provides the capability to create quizzes for importing to a word processor for formatting and printing. Questions are selected from question database of over 2,300 questions written by Carl Seneker. Once activated, a feature of QUIZGEN is the ability to add additional questions to the question database.

BIBLQUIZ with QuizGen is available for as a package. The package includes a church-wide registration for BIBLQUIZ, QuizGen for coaches and a free soft-copy copy of Carl's questions.

Version 01.04 has been released.
An important fix was made to the questcor.dat question database. When attempting to select questions from 2Corinthians starting in chapter 2, questions from higher chapters would be included. This was caused by a typographical error in the question set.
QuizGen users who have modified the question database should double check their customized file (Questcor.da$) to ensure that all questions are in proper reference sequence. The errant question in the standard database was in 2Cor 12:14 where 2:14 was specified incorrectly.

     Windows 95/98 users may now download a new installation setup version of BIBLQUIZ'99 that will perform a standard Windows/95 install. This includes the installation of shortcuts in a BIBLQUIZ'99 folder in the Program Files folder. It also provides an HTML shortcut to the BIBLQUIZ home page on the internet.

     When requesting a quiz with thousands of questions (Wow!), the program would not complete formatting all of the questions. This has been corrected.

Version 99.01 is the beta release of BIBLQUIZ '99.

• QuizGen has had the following changes:
  1. SMARTPICK was introduced. When chosen in the QuizGen options line, the program will dynamically select the mix of questions. The mix should fall within the specifications set by the C&MA quizzing rules. When multiple quizzes are generated at one time, the mix for each quiz will be selected independent of the others.

• QuizGen has had the following changes:
  1. Up to 4,000 questions can be used in the database.
  2. The question selection algorithm has been enhanced to reduce the redundant use of questions across quizzes which is helpful when generating quizzes for competition..

WordSearch Puzzles Are Coming Back!

This feature is being prepared for quizzers which will be found on the BIBLQUIZ Home Page. A copy of Wordsheets V4.0 has been obtained to generate WordSearch puzzles using keywords from Galatians, Ephesians, Phillipians and Colossians. BIBLQUIZ '98 FOR THE BOOK OF ACTS IS HERE!

Arrangements have been made to allow coaches and quiz masters who purchase a copy of the questions supplied by Carl Seneker to register for an enhanced version of BIBLQUIZ '99 which will provide support to create quizzes to a file for printing. This feature allows the user to select the chapter range, whether review questions should be included, the count of each type of question to be asked and an optional print of the full verse text from which the answer is taken. Jump points will be included in the questions. In addition, the question database may be tailored to add or change questions.

*** HOW DO I REGISTER? ***

Please note that registration codes are different for this year.

I have been excited to hear about quizzers who have used BIBLQUIZ to their advantage in the last two years. My children have also been encouraged to hear from quizzers throughout North America and e-mail others on a regular basis. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

If you desire to register BIBLQUIZ with QuizGen or become a supporting subscriber to received the extended code for BIBLQUIZ, simply register for the free code, then send an E-Mail to mstebner@biblquiz.com to request an enhanced registration code.

Upon receiving your registration information, a registration code will be sent back to the e-mail address provided, which you may enter on the registration prompt screen. There are three levels of registration available:

1. A base code (which is already set on the DISKETTE install). This code is free of charge and encourages users to let the author know who to send update information to when new releases and fixes are made available. It also opens up some basic features, which include:
   

   a) The ability to extend the maximum allowable answer time to 999 seconds.

   b) The use of the F1 & F2 "hint" and "learn mode" options.

   c) The ability to use the selective question type options. This will allow the user to drill on specific types of questions.

   
   

2. A "Supporting Subscriber" code which opens up additional features. The program will indicate which features are available only for "Supporting Subscribers". (See the Ordering Information menu item for more info.)




3. A QUIZGEN code for coaches and quiz masters. This code is used in conjunction with code #2 above (you must be a "Supporting Subscriber" of BIBLQUIZ) and turns on the QUIZ Generation feature. This code extension is to be appended to the end of code #2. This code is obtained by purchasing a soft-copy set of Carl Seneker's questions (which are used in the BIBLQUIZ database). Once the questions are obtained, find the code as follows:

   - Open the Keyword Reference List

   - Go to the third page

   - Select the keyword in the middle column at the top.

   
   

*** HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? ***

It is my intent to provide BIBLQUIZ to every quizzer, whether they can afford it or not. Therefore, there is not currently a required fee for use of the program by quizzers.

Although the program is available free of charge, I am requesting that a "registration donation" be made to cover the development and support costs. As you can see from the amounts requested below, I have made every attempt to make this very affordable. The requested amount is also extremely small when compared to the value received by the quizzers! Please be encouraged however, that if you cannot afford the requested amount, either send something less or nothing at all.

*** CAN I GIVE IT TO MY FRIENDS? ***

Absolutely! There is no charge to distribute BIBLQUIZ. Simply copy the Setup_BQ2003.exe installation file to a diskette for them.

*** WHAT IS BIBLQUIZ LIKE? ***

BIBLQUIZ was developed originally as a study-aid to help my own children study for C&MA Bible Quizzing. It is an interactive program intending to present practice questions, answers, and related scripture (NIV) in a format similar to a Bible quiz. A brief description of the program's operation is as follows:

One to Four players are prompted for a color choice and a "JUMP"-KEY assignment.

The program selects 20 or more questions from a question file based on some startup parameters selected by the user(s).

Each question is presented to the player(s) and a 5-second "JUMP" clock is started. The players may "JUMP" during this period by depressing their individual "JUMP" key. The first player to "JUMP" is recognized.

If a "JUMP" is detected, the time clock is reset (60 - 999 seconds as requested by the user in the setup), and the player is expected to begin typing in his/her answer. Each word is evaluated for correctness as it is typed. The program will change the color of the word to a color-code which identifies whether the word is:

If the word entered is incorrect for an FTV or Quote question, the word is turned red, and the cursor is repositioned to the beginning of that word for the player to over-type, thereby enforcing a "word-perfect" answer.

Answer words are accepted until either:

1. - The player provides all required words to achieve "Correct!"
2. - The time clock expires.
3. - The user voluntarily gives up by pressing .

4) When the question answering period is complete, or the "JUMP" clock expires, the entire answer is displayed below the response area along with the associated verse and reference.

5) A correct/incorrect count display is maintained on the screen below the names of the players.

*** WHAT ARE THE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS? ***

BIBLQUIZ was originally developed for my own family and was enhanced according to the needs of others within our quizzing zone. For that reason, I attempted to accommodate the greatest number of people and keep it affordable. This resulted in basing the system on an IBM-compatible PC. The system requirements are as follows:

Hardware:

• IBM Compatible 286 -> 586 processor.
• 640K memory.
• Approximately 2MB of Hard-disk space.
• Performance is best when run from a hard disk.
• Color monitor; RGB, EGA, VGA, SVGA, XVGA

WIN/95 and above

The program has been successfully run in a "DOS" window (which is how the author runs it). Be sure to set the properties to "FULL SCREEN" with "FAST ROM EMULATION" for the best performance.

Memory:

• In all of the above systems, a minimum of 576k of Conventional Memory (use the DOS "mem /c" command to determine what you have) is required. This memory has nothing to do with expanded or extended memory (RAM) installed as hardware. It is open space for programs to load and execute.
• The system that I run has:
  • Largest executable program size 602,304 (588K)

*** HOW DO I INSTALL BIBLQUIZ? ***

A common installer for Windows 95 and above

Simply Download the BIBLQUIZ 2003 Setup_BQ2003 program for Win95/98/2000 and run it!
It will automatically install shortcuts in a new folder.

Note that the file has been run through an Anti-Virus utility, but as a matter of safety, you are encouraged to run an anti-virus utility against any software downloaded from other sites.

Let me first say that I would like to write perfect code 100% of the time, but that the Lord would like me to remain humble. With that premise, I will offer in advance, an apology for all bugs, lack of functionality, and general inconveniences that may be caused to you by the program. I graciously accept all constructive comments and correction information so that the program can become more robust and reliable over time. It is highly suggested that all material generated by BIBLQUIZ be reviewed for accuracy and completeness before using for anything really important.
